Spiritual and highly informative, this historical fiction is a powerful debut based on over a decade of research. Taut and richly told, Thomas the Apostle by new author Barbara Bode Snyder is based on Bible scriptures, the Gospel of Thomas, and on stories learned when she lived in India, and tells the tale of the Apostle Thomas, beginning with his family's life in the small town of Cana in Israel.

The adventure gets under way the day before his and his twin brother's bar mitzvah and leads the reader down a long path scattered with tragedy, betrayal, and the beautiful love of Jesus.
Having traveled from Jerusalem to Parthia and then to India, Thomas spent his time and energy fanning the fires of Christianity into a powerful ministry.

Thomas's resounding voice and passion is immortalized in the Bible and remains strong in India, but is greatly misunderstood by most of the world.
Now, for the first time, readers are allowed a vivid and moving portrait of an apostle who did so much more than doubt.
Christian fiction has a strong new voice.

The proper name of Thomas the Apostle was Judas bar Alphaeus, or Judas son of Alphaeus.
The word Thomas was never used as a proper name 2,000 years ago, but was usually used as a
nickname to describe the second of a pair of twins. The story of the older twin of the pair is given
in the novel, Thomas the Apostle. The impact of Thomas the Apostle was so strong that within
one hundred years of his death, children were sometimes formally named Thomas.

Many people call Thomas the Apostle "Doubting Thomas"
despite the fact that the other apostles and disciples
also doubted before they saw Jesus for themselves.
